A little taste of the joy of reaching the summit awaits hikers and nature lovers at the Zwölferhorn.
The 1,522-meter-high Zwölferhorn is not only St. Gilgen’s local mountain but also one of the most beautiful scenic peaks in the Salzkammergut, which you can reach in just 11 minutes via the Zwölferhorn cable car.
The gondolas offer a comfortable ride, a breathtaking view, and plenty of space. This makes the Zwölferhorn accessible to everyone, including families with children and all their gear.
The hike from St. Gilgen takes 2.5 to 3.0 hours, depending on your pace and fitness level, and there are cozy places to stop for refreshments along the way!

Twelve stations have been set up along the Pillstein Panorama Trail, explaining exciting natural phenomena and traditional customs in a fun and engaging way.

The Panorama Sun Terrace, along with regular yoga sessions and sound meditations, invite you to enjoy nature and draw strength from the tranquility.

Von Trapp Family Mini Museum
New as of late May 2026: Just a short walk from the mountain station, discover the true story of the von Trapp family—the family that inspired the world-famous film “The Sound of Music.”

Paragliding
The Zwölferhorn is an absolute hotspot for paragliders and offers fascinating, unforgettable views of the lakes of the Salzkammergut. The Zwölferhorn cable car takes you to the launch site in just eleven minutes.

Up the Mountain with Solar Power
Since summer 2024, the Zwölferhorn cable car has been the first in the world to transport guests up the mountain using pure solar power.
The photovoltaic system achieves a direct self-sufficiency rate of over 90%. From February to November, the gondolas even float up to the Zwölferhorn completely energy-autonomously.

Coming from Vienna:
Take the A1 motorway towards Linz/Salzburg - leave the motorway at the Mondsee exit (265) – follow the B road to St. Gilgen

Coming from Munich:
Take the A8/E52 motorway to Salzburg - bypass Salzburg A1 towards Vienna – take the exit (274) at Thalgau towards Hof bei Salzburg – at the roundabout take the 158 road to Hof, Fuschl and St. Gilgen

Coming from Vienna or Germany:
by train to Salzburg (Hauptbahnhof)
In the square outside the station take bus number 150 to St. Gilgen (Busbahnhof)

Coming from Salzburg airport:
Take bus number 2 to the Salzburg train station (Hauptbahnhof) – from there take bus number 150 to St. Gilgen (Busbahnhof)

Parking:
Either directly at park deck of the valley station or Parking Helenenstraße (also for coaches)
