The Lake Wolfgangsee area offers walking and running trails for all hiking and walking enthusiasts. These have all been newly-signposted to an international standard, which makes getting your bearings and making your choice of route even easier!   From an easy stroll along the lake to scaling the Schafberg Mountain to the summit - it’s all achievable!

Adventure Rucksack
Lake Wolfgangsee 

He who has a Lake Wolfgangsee region Adventure Rucksack couldn’t be better prepared for a hike!  Contained in the Mini Adventure Rucksack is a Lake Wolfgangsee hiking-map, a 3D hiking-map, a rain mac, a felt underlay to sit on and a Salzkammergut pocket knife l pair of binoculars and plasters.  This costs 32.00 Euros.

Culinaryat the Mountains

Stop for a bite to eat at one of the many mountain huts and let yourself be spoiled - you deserve it! Rustic snacks served on wooden platters with cheese, cream cheese, bacon and alpine butter or, if you prefer, fragrant roasted pork. Finally, the highlight, a country doughnut or a traditional sweet of chopped up pancake fit for a king! Why don’t you also enjoy a schnapps (to help with the digestion and give you renewed energy for your hike, of course!

Going up the easy way!

Schafberg Mountain Cog Railway in St. Wolfgang

The Schafberg Mountain summit - the viewing platform of the Salzkammergut - is the highlight of an experience already beyond compare - whether reached by use of the famous cog railway or on foot.  The Schafberg Mountain cog railway is the steepest steam cog-railway in Austria and has been operating from St. Wolfgang since 1893.  In 40 minutes the train climbs 1190 m over a distance of 5.85 km.  Enjoy the breathtaking views over the surrounding lakes.

The Zwölferhorn Mountain Cable-car in St. Gilgen

The top of the Zwölferhorn Mountain, where there is an extensive network of hiking trails, can be reached very comfortably by cable-car.  Travelling over a distance of 2,740 m, it takes about 15 minutes to reach the top station which lies at 1,476 m above sea level.

Today, this very special nostalgic cable car is an attraction in its own right!

The Postalm Alpine Plateau in Strobl

The Postalm is the largest Alpine pature area in Austria and the second largest high-plateau in Europe.  It lies at 1,200 - 2,000 m above sea level and is perfectly suited for hiking and leisure trips.   The Postalm Plateau is reached by way of a spectacular Panoramic Road leading to Alpine meadows in flower, cosy huts and a fantastic panoramic view of the mountains - simply nature at its purest.
