Best Place for Sports
Thousands of runners from more than 25 countries look forward to October, when, for more than 40 years, it has been time for the “International run around the Wolfgangsee”. The half-marathon (27 km) has since grown into the Salzkammergut Marathon (42.2 km). Shorter sections are available for leisure runners – and all in fantastic scenery.
The mountain bike race on the Zwölferhorn in the middle of August is a challenge for both man and bike. There is a difference in altitude of 1171 m over a distance of 34 km.
An extreme triathlon takes place in the natural sports arena of the Wolfgangsee in September: a 1.5 km swim, 45 km by mountain bike and then a 15 km cross-country run. This challenge will take place for the tenth time this year, having attained the status of a national championship last year.
In May, the Schafberg run pits “man against steam engine” when the runners have to run the length of the railway track, at an incline of 26% and with an altitude difference of 1240 m. One of the greatest challenges in mountain running!
