The name alone suggests that this is an extraordinary landscape. And indeed, alpine pasture and moor are intertwined here in a unique way. The Moosalm, 750 metres above sea level, is 1.5 kilometres long but just under 350 metres wide. It is crossed by the Moosbach stream, whose banks are still largely unspoilt and which flows to the Schwarzsee lake. Moors are repeatedly embedded in the alpine pastures, such as a fen in the north of the protected area. The two raised bogs in the southern part of the Moosalm are particularly eye-catching. Typical of this type of bog, they bulge out like a watch glass and are themselves surrounded by a fen. With the forests, rough pastures and the aforementioned moors surrounding the alp, the Moosalm provides a valuable habitat for an incredible variety of plants and animals.
