The Zwölferhorn rises exactly 1522 meters above St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang. It is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Salzkammergut and is transformed into a wonderfull snow landscape every winter. The distant view is simply phenomenal in the clear winter air: deep down, the ice-cold and deep blue Wolfgangsee glitters. It is surrounded by powdered meadows and forests, while St. Gilgen with its magical white roofs looks like a toy village.
For more than 50 years, the Zwölferhorn cable car has been tirelessly and absolutely reliably in operation, with a leisurely speed of 2.8 meters per second it struggled up the mountain in around 15 minutes in every season. But now is the time for a new cable car. It is out of service since January 1, 2020 and will be replaced by a modern single-cable gondola. Expected to open in autumn 2020.
Tourers can look forward to fantastic conditions. The ascent from St. Gilgen takes 2.5 to 3.0 hours, depending on your speed and condition. You can choose between four wonderful descents. And if there is a small or big hunger during the Zwölferhorn ski tour, there are plenty of places to stop for something to eat!
When will you be enchanted by the Zwölferhorn?
