On 29 October 1904, the fourteen-year-old graduate of the prince-archbishop's choirboy institute
Kapellhaus" in Salzburg, Alois Scherrer, founded a small group for the cultivation of house music as the "Salonkapelle Alois Scherrer", which was then renamed the "Musikverein St. Wolfgang am Wolfgangsee" on 6 January 1928.


In 1953, Franz Zimmermann (born in 1910) took over as the new bandleader of the Musikverein, a position he held with dedication and idealism until 1980.

The 50th anniversary celebrations on 26 and 27 June 1954 are celebrated with a performance of W. A. Mozart's Coronation Mass
by W. A. Mozart and a festive concert in the Grand Hotel.

On the initiative of the Musikverein, the 1st Heimatabend is held on 16 June 1956 in the hall of the
Grand Hotel with the participation of the Trachtenverein and the Männergesangverein.

On 30 July 1962, the pavilion on the promenade is inaugurated as a "new cultural attraction" with a lively opening concert by the Musikverein.

The grand opening of the multi-purpose hall with the Musikverein takes place on 25 July 1964.

7 Dec. 1974: 70 years of the Musikverein and 10 years of the Gemischter Chor are celebrated together with the Strobl and St. Gilgen Liedertafeln.

1981: Franz Zimmermann jun. (joined in 1954) is elected to the board of directors by the general assembly, from 1990 he also takes over the musical direction of the orchestra.

1984 is the 80th anniversary year of the Musikverein and the 20th anniversary of the mixed choir, which is celebrated
celebrated together with the performance of a Missa brevis by W. A. Mozart and a festive concert.

For the 125th anniversary of the Männergesangverein on 10 May 2003 - participation of the Musikverein in the commemorative service, musik. Conductor Helmut Höplinger and at the festive concert.

"100 years of the Musikverein (conducted by Franz Zimmermann) and "40 years of the mixed choir"
(conducted by Christiane Limbacher) is the motto of the New Year's concert on 3 January 2004.

In the years that followed, the orchestra's repertoire was continuously expanded.
In addition to the traditional Wolfgang spa concerts, the Musikverein now also performs three times in summer
three times in summer on the promenade in Strobl.

On 16 May 2016, Bmst. Franz Eisl presents a certificate of honour to Helmut Höplinger for
56 years of meritorious service to the association as treasurer and pianist.

Recently, on 26 October 2017 and 13 April 2018, there were two joint performances by the mixed choir, conducted by Ferdinand Kasberger, and the MV St. Wolfgang with the Mass in C major by S. Zimmermann in the churches of St. Wolfgang and Pfandl.

The highlight of the association's 115-year history was the première of the
"St. Wolfganger Glockensymphonie" by Simon Zimmermann on 31 August 2019 in the pilgrimage church of St. Wolfgang: mixed choir rehearsed by Ferdinand Kasberger,
Musikverein St. Wolfgang, brass quintet of the Bürgermusik, herald KD Hans Wieser,
Conductor Simon Zimmermann. Approx. 500 listeners.
