Palm Leaf Sanctification in St. Wolfgang

Blessing of the palms at the post office square, followed by a procession to the church with music by the local brass band and holy mass.

In preparation for Palm Sunday, the tradition of tying „palm bundles“ for blessing takes place. The bundles usually include small branches of juniper, holly, thuja, box, yew, pussy willow, hazel. The bundles are often decorated with apples, ribbons and slivers of bark. After being blessed during Palm Sunday services the bundles are placed on home crucifixes or displayed on long sticks in fields.
