The plans for the unusual building were drawn up by the 2017 State Prize winner, architect DI Simon Speigner from Thalgau: the seven metre height stands for the seven works of mercy. The shape of the cladding, covered with handmade larch shingles, represents the protective cloak of mercy.
The narrow entrance is intended to prepare the visitor for something "special". Annemarie Windhager designed the coloured glass door herself. Inside, there are symbols for the works of mercy. Reflections of light and the motto "Love your neighbour, for he is like you" on the wall are intended to encourage reflection and meditation.
