On May 21, 2026, the new “Von Trapp Family Mini Museum” opened at the Zwölferhorn in St. Gilgen. Kristina von Trapp, granddaughter of the famous couple Maria and Georg von Trapp, traveled to the opening with her daughter Annie. Also in attendance were Mario Stedile-Foradori, managing partner, and Arthur Moser, managing director of the Zwölferhorn Cable Car, as well as Mayor Otto Kloiber and numerous representatives of the regional tourism industry. The event was accompanied by music from the Tanzlmusi St. Gilgen, while the Hackl family from the panoramic restaurant “Das Zwölfer” treated guests to culinary delights. With the new Mini Museum, a special place has been created on the Zwölferhorn that tells the true story of the von Trapp family—the family whose story inspired the world-famous film “The Sound of Music.” The Zwölferhorn and the view of St. Gilgen can be seen in the film’s opening credits, creating an authentic connection between the region and the history of the von Trapp family. The idea for the museum arose from the desire to keep the family’s story alive not only in Vermont but also in Salzburg. Together with the von Trapp family, an existing building was transformed into a lovingly designed mini museum. There, visitors immerse themselves in the family’s history through detailed miniatures, numerous photographs, background information, and original music by the Trapp Family Singers.
