WOSSA Gravelbike Tour

Explore the water cycle of the Alps by bike

Water is particularly present in the Alps. Most scientists agree that life began in water.

The best way to explore the Alps is by bike. More precisely, by gravel bike.

The WOSSA Bikepacking Tour takes you to majestic mountain lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and moors.
They all bear witness to the fascinating water cycle of the Alps.

This tour has been specially designed for gravel bikes. Over a distance of 560 kilometres and 8000 metres in altitude, it is definitely an exciting challenge.
Over a period of 5 to 7 days, you will ride past landscapes that only the Alps can offer.

With the brevet map and digital information material, you will also receive lots of exciting information about the nature along the route.
The route is a real bikepacking adventure and natural history all in one.

The routes on Lake Wolfgangsee and the Salzkammergut routes

Via Bad Ischl to Lake Wolfgangsee

On a gravel bike through the Salzkammergut. From Gosau, head towards Hallstatt and the famous Lake Hallstatt. Here you cycle on a gravel track between fields and dense forests.

Via the Ostufer cycle path, you head to Bad Goisern, known as the cycling hotspot of the Salzkammergut. It owes this fame to the Salzkammergut Trophy. On the way, you pass through the village of Obertraun.

From Bad Goisern, you cycle along the River Traun to the imperial town of Bad Ischl, a spa town with impressive old buildings that show how important the town was in imperial times. Bad Ischl is the cultural centre of the Salzkammergut.

The route now continues along the River Ischl to Lake Wolfgangsee. It runs all the way to Strobl. The fantastic lake panorama invites you to linger on the lakeside promenade. There are also numerous accommodation options in Strobl.

The route continues via Blinklingmoos to St. Gilgen. The moor can be easily observed along the way. It was formed by sediment deposits in the foreland of Lake Wolfgangsee.

From Lake Wolfgangsee to Fuschl

On the next stage, turn off the cycle path and head steeply up towards the Zwölferhorn.
However, you don't cycle all the way up to the Zwölferhorn, but instead cycle on tarmac and gravel roads to the Königsbergalm.

This ascent offers a wonderful view of Lake Wolfgangsee. But be careful! There may still be snow on the Zwölferhorn until May.

The gravel is also a little loose on the descent. After the winding descent, you come to Hintersee.
From Hintersee, the route leads over the Strubklamm gorge towards Faistenau. The route then continues via Faistenau to Fuschl.
The Perfalleck is another short, tough test on this stretch. Then it's through cool forests to Lake Fuschl.
